Convenience
A built-in microwave oven combo can free up space on your kitchen counters and give a stylish appearance to your kitchen. It can be used to heat leftovers, frozen food items, and packaged food items. It can also eliminate the need for an additional countertop appliance or large wall ovens that are stand-alone. A microwave-microwave combination can also be a good option if you want to upgrade your kitchen without having to undergo any major renovation projects.
You can find microwave ovens that come in various designs to fit your kitchen decor. Some microwave oven combos feature a swing-out right-to-left door or drop-down designs that open the same way as traditional ovens. There is also an oven and microwave that opens in a drawer, like cabinets. Microwave drawers are simple to reach and are ideal for small spaces where you need to keep your microwave from taking up valuable counter space.
Combination microwaves also come with various features to help make meal prep easier and more efficient. Certain models come with the option of a sensor steam mode that adjusts the temperature and time of your food automatically to ensure you get perfect steaming of your fish and vegetables. Other features include a broil element that allows you to quickly melt cheese or brown your favorite dish, as well as Crispwave(tm) technology that allows you to grill or bake food and make it crisp.
When choosing a microwave combination, make sure to consider how often you'll use each function. It's important to keep in mind that a combination appliance generally has less capacity than a conventional standalone oven.
After you've selected an oven and microwave combination to satisfy your needs, think about the installation procedure. Over-the-range models are installed over your cooktop or stove and connect to a power outlet. Built-in microwaves are inserted on walls or cabinets in your kitchen. Some models have trim kits that match your new microwave to the cabinets you already have.
Energy Efficiency

A built in microwave oven combo can provide a great space saving option for those who have smaller kitchens, whether they live in a home or apartment. They can save on the space in cabinets that would be taken up by two separate appliances, and they can also help reduce energy consumption. They are more energy efficient than traditional wall-mounted ovens and provide an efficient method to cook. They can also be used to cook food and warm dishes. This means that there is less need for other appliances like toasters or warming plates.
DOE performs several analyses when evaluating potential amendments to energy conservation standards. These include technology and market assessments, screening analyses, engineering analyses and a national impact analysis (NIA). For this SNOPR, DOE will rely on its existing engineering analysis of microwave ovens to determine the best efficiency improvements that are technologically feasible for this product category.
DOE will assess the microwave's design to an energy performance objective that is specified in the engineering analysis. The engineering analysis will then determine the maximum improvement in energy efficiency that is technologically feasible based on the most advanced microprocessor-controlled model available on the market or in working prototypes, or the maximum reduction in energy consumption that is technically achievable with the current technologies available for this product class.
As part of NIA, DOE will assess the impact on consumers, including the cost savings throughout the lifecycle and simple payback period (PBP). DOE will employ its Government Regulatory Impact Model with an adaptation for microwave ovens to calculate industry net present value ("NPV").
DOE will also evaluate the effects on manufacturers and will use a modified industry cash flow model that is modified to fit this particular product in order to estimate manufacturing NPV. Additionally, DOE will consider the potential impact on small business manufacturers as well as other subgroups of manufacturers to identify any that could be disproportionately affected by these proposals.
DOE will also look into whether the test procedure for microwave ovens requires to be revised to include active mode power consumption as well as an integrated energy use measure. The current test procedures only cover standby mode power consumption.
Design
Wall ovens rely on the circulation of hot air evenly while microwaves make use of waves to cause water molecules in food to vibrate and produce heat. Combination wall ovens combine two very different appliances into one unit that helps save kitchen space and gives sleek, modern design. But you need to carefully think about your needs and budget before purchasing a combination wall oven. Some of the ovens we rated have design or performance issues.
